Secrest Arboretum’s Planting and Transplanting Workshop
Fall’s a great time to plant trees. And you can learn how to do it — it takes more than digging a hole in the ground — in Secrest Arboretum’s Planting and Transplanting Workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 21.
Ken Cochran, curator of the arboretum, said the workshop's goal is to get trees to live long and prosper.
“People often don’t realize that after you plant a tree, it takes three years of follow-up to establish it,” he said.
“Knowing the right techniques for planting and transplanting is part of sustainable landscaping. If a tree is planted right, it’s going to last.”
Planting depth, preparation of the hole, plant and site selection, and long-term follow-up and establishment will be some of the topics. Trees and woody shrubs will be covered. All the activities will be outdoors and hands-on.
Hours are 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Registration costs $50 per person and is limited to 12. Call 330-464-2148 for details and to register.
Meet at the Seaman Orientation Plaza in Secrest Arboretum, part of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC), 1680 Madison Ave., Wooster.
