QUAKERS TO EXPLORE TESTIMONIES, ADVICES, AND QUERIES

01/03/2010

The development of testimonies and the use of advices and queries will be the focus of the discussion at Wooster Friends Meeting (Quakers) Sunday, January 3, 12:15 p.m.

The discussion will be held in the regular meeting place, the lower level of the Westminster Presbyterian Church House, 353 East Pine Street, on the College of Wooster campus, Wooster, Ohio, and will follow the regularly held silent worship, which begins at 10:45 a.m.

Testimonies are the shared statements of belief which have developed and continue to develop for Quakers. Testimonies are not articles of faith or statements of creed, but continue to evolve. Even the number of testimonies is not fixed, although a list of testimonies generally includes Peace, Simplicity, Truth, Equality, and Care of the Earth.

Quakers reflect on the testimonies in a formal way through the process of advices and queries. The reflections and discussions may take place in a meeting for worship or privately.

The discussion is open to the public, and people unfamiliar with Quakers are invited to attend and participate. The discussion will be held in the form of “worship sharing.”

The discussions will continue on the first Sunday of each month, at 12:15 p.m. Future discussions will focus on the practices and testimonies of Quakers, including sacramental living and the testimonies for peace and simplicity.

WQKT offers the Community Calendar for Non-profit & CharitableGroups & Events. Business & Personal Events will not be posted.
