Holmes County Fair Steer Weigh-In
4-H members who took a Market Steer or Dairy Steer project to the 2009 Holmes County Fair have been mailed a letter and registration card for the Steer Weigh-In scheduled for December 19, 2009 at the Holmes County Fairgrounds from 9:00a.m. until 12:00 noon. The weigh-in is mandatory in order to take a steer project to the Holmes County Fair. The steer will be weighed, and tagged. The steer
should be either banded or castrated when you bring it to the weigh-in. At the weigh-in, you can ask for nose print cards if you plan to take your steer to the state fair in August. A hoof trimmer will be available that day also. If you are new to the steer project, wish to know more, or did not receive the registration card, please contact the OSU Extension Office at 330-674-3015.
• A Beef Performance and Carcass Quality Show is scheduled for the Ohio State Fair in August of 2010. This is an opportunity for junior market beef exhibitors to participate in the live show at the Ohio State Fair as well as compete in a carcass
competition designed to tie knowledge of the beef production with production of high-quality beef for consumers. In order to participate, the steer must be weighed by certified scales, tagged with a BPCQ tag and have its nose printed between December 1, 2009 and January 15, 2010. Please call the OSU Extension Office at 330-674-3015 for more information.
