You will want to be sure to attend this program which is scheduled to be in the Conference Room of the Wooster Library beginning at 6:30 p.m.. There is no charge for the program.
We are privileged to have Richard Helwig of Sunbury, Ohio, visit Wooster in his authentic Civil War era Santa Claus outfit, which is outstanding. “Santa” will give us the fascinating “history” of Santa in the CW era. He also will share the lives of the soldiers and their terrible homesickness, especially at Christmas time. Rick has several letters written by soldiers during that lonely time.
Rick has been portraying Santa professionally for 36 years and is a “natural” in that esteemed role! He has been involved in CW living history his entire life i.e. 50 years. This is literally true, his parents were reenactors and there are pictures of him in CW baby clothes.
