Environment Investigators: Insect Fun at The Wilderness Center-Thu., Aug. 5, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Let’s catch some insects! We will use nets and bug boxes to study the different types of insects and then release them to their home. Environment Investigators programs are geared for all ages of children working with adults. Free.

Star Watch & Planetarium Show at The Wilderness Center- Fri., Aug. 6, 8 p.m.
Join TWC’s Astronomy Club for a Planetarium Show, then view the real things through telescopes. All ages. Free.

Snake Walk at The Wilderness Center- Sat., Aug. 7, 10 a.m.
Join Naturalist Carrie Elvey on a hike to look for snakes. Dress to be outside and off the trail. The hike will last about 1 hour. Free.

Foxfield Preserve Info Session at The Wilderness Center- Sat., Aug. 7, 2 p.m.
Foxfield Preserve is a nature preserve cemetery at TWC. Natural burial is an economical, environmentally friendly alternative to modern burial, as fewer resources are used. As a nature preserve, we provide wildlife habitat, a clean watershed, and clean air. Walking trails allow everyone to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the preserve. A natural burial at Foxfield Preserve leaves a permanent legacy for your family, community, and the natural world. Free info session.

Fossil Wall Weekend at The Wilderness Center -Sat., Aug. 7 & Sun., Aug. 8, 2 p.m.
Come examine The Wilderness Center's fossil wall and have it explained by docent Ken Renner. Learn how and when life developed on our planet and see all the animals on it that have come and gone. All ages. Free.

Summer Storytelling Concert at The Wilderness Center- Sat., Aug. 7, 7-9 p.m.
Into the heat of summer already! Although there is no regular storytellers meeting in the month of August, we will be having a Storytelling Concert Aug. 7, 7-9 p.m. with light refreshments during intermission. Please come out of the heat and spend an evening of storytelling, drama, and wit, with limited commercial interruption. Remember, we need the most important part of storytelling - you. $3/adult; $1/child; $6/family.

Join us for this informal time under the Planetarium dome on the 2nd Tues. of every month. Bring your questions—you’ll determine the program! Includes astronomy in the news and a tour of the sky this evening. Free.

OCVN - Living Green at The Wilderness Center -Thu., Aug. 12, 7 p.m. Join the Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalists for their monthly meeting and this program on Living Green presented by Jean Paddock. The program will be followed by a short business meeting. Free.

Perseid Watch at The Wilderness Center- Fri., Aug. 13, 10 p.m.-?
The Perseid Meteor Shower is one of the most active meteor showers of the year, with an estimated predicted fall of 40-80 meteors an hour! Join us at TWC to enjoy this spectacle. We’ll start at dark, but viewing is best after midnight.
Bring a comfortable lawn chair and dress for the evening chill. Cancelled if cloudy. We try to make the call at least 2 hours before the program starts—call if there’s a doubt. Family. Free, but we’ll have coffee, lemonade, and cookies for a donation.

Story Time: The Snail’s Trail at The Wilderness Center Wed., Aug. 18, 11 a.m.
Where did that snail go? We’ll have snail tales, follow the snail’s trail, and look for snail eggs. Finish with a snail race!
Stories are for 3-4 year olds, but all ages are welcome, if they’d be interested. Free for members; donation requested from nonmembers. Registration is optional.

Environment Investigators: Rocky Tales at The Wilderness Center -Fri., Aug. 20, 10:30 a.m.-noon
Hike with Lynda to the natural spring. Hear the tales of how rocks were used by the early pioneers of the area. Environment Investigators programs are geared for all ages of children working with adults. Free.
Bird Walk at The Wilderness Center- Sat., Aug. 21, 8 a.m.
Take a walk with the Birders Club to look for birds. All ages. Free.

Ohio Fossils at The Wilderness Center- Sat., Aug. 21, 10 a.m.-noon
TWC Naturalist Lynda Price will talk about the fossil forms found in Ohio as they relate to geological time periods. This inside class will give you a hands-on look at Ohio’s past. Geared for adults. $10. Max: 30.? Must pre-register.
Butterfly Walks at The Wilderness Center- Sat., Aug. 21, 1-2 p.m. & Wed., Aug. 25, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Learn about life cycles of butterflies and how to identify them. We will walk the Prairie trail to view the common butterflies visiting the area. Each participant will receive the booklet Common Butterflies and Skippers of Ohio, a Division of Wildlife publication. Cancelled if raining. Free.

The Center is dedicated to connecting our community with nature, educating people of all ages, conserving natural resourses and practicing environmental stewarship.
