Ashland Area Chorus Ready to Start Spring Season
The Ashland Area Chorus, a non-auditioned mixed choir of about 70 singers, is ready to start its spring season. The rehearsal schedule begins on Monday, Jan. 11, with the Chorus meeting on Monday nights from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Ashland University in the Center for the Arts (formerly the Arts and Humanities building), room 242.
The Chorus will not rehearse on Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 18, but will resume on Jan. 25.
The Chorus is open to the entire Ashland community and beyond: singers have come from Richland, Medina, Wayne, Holmes and Crawford counties as well. Previous choral experience is helpful, but not required. While there are no strict age limits, singers under 18 must be approved by the director. There is no cost to the singer.
The AAC has performed in regular Ashland University concerts, with the Ashland Symphony Orchestra and for the Ohio Choral Directors Association. Recent appearances have included subscription concerts with the ASO (including Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” and the Verdi “Requiem”) and the summer pops concert in the park. On April 17, 2010, the AAC will perform several opera choruses with the Ashland Symphony Orchestra.
Current members should encourage their talented friends and neighbors to attend the first rehearsal and make a vocal contribution to this fine musical organization.
