The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), 'Wayne County Chapter 2218, will hold its meeting on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at Ryan's Steakhouse in Wooster at 11:30 am. Speaker for the meeting will be Jon Ulbright who will present a program on the Civil War.

Membership to NARFE is open to all federal retirees, current federal employees, spouses and former spouses of current and retired federal employees, former employees eligible for deferred annuity and survivors of those eligible to join NARFE.

ASHLAND, Ohio -- This winter, a free, two-day poetry workshop will be offered on the campus of Ashland University on Dec. 1 and 2.

Area and regional residents are invited to join Ashland University professors and staff Deborah Fleming, Stephen Haven and Sarah M. Wells as well as featured presenter Lynn Powell for two days filled with workshops, seminars, readings, open-mics and socializing with other poets and writers from across the state of Ohio.

Wooster Hope Center's Food Distribution and Social Service Fair with free haircuts will be held on November 10, 2012 from 11am-1pm. It will take place in the FFA Building at the Wayne County Fairgrounds. Recipients must be Wayne County residents and have an ID with their current address. If their ID address isn't current, then they must bring a legal paper that has their name and address on it. They will be asked to fill out a self-declaration of need form.

Veterans Day Luncheon

Event Details*: An event to thank and celebrate Veterans in the greater Wooster community.

We will begin with coffee and conversation in the Edgewood library at 11:30 a.m. (optional), followed by lunch at 12:15 p.m. in the cafeteria. Edgewood students will provide musical entertainment during lunch, followed by a short program.

Beginning at 1:30 p.m., there will be a school-wide assembly to celebrate Veterans Day in the Edgewood gym.

DOWNTOWN RITTMAN DECORATING CONTEST

The Rittman Area Chamber of Commerce would like to announce a great way to show your talents and holiday spirit by entering in a planter decorating contest.

The downtown square has 23 planter boxes along Ohio Ave and Main Street. We are looking for churches, businesses, organizations or families to pick a planter and decorate for the winter holiday season.

• Designs must be family friendly.
• Decorations must be secured firmly in planters to withstand the elements.
• Signs featuring the sponsor name may be used in the planter.
