WQKT - STEVE SMITH CLASSIC

A big thanks goes out to everyone who was part of the WQKT - Steve Smith Classic this past weekend at the College of Wooster. This was the sixth straight year the event has been held and seemed to run pretty smooth once again. We had numerous volunteers give their time and effort again this year and their service was once again invaluable. Fan support was again good thru the day which was one of the main reasons that this event was started. We wanted to have a day of basketball for area fans to enjoy. A big thanks to the College of Wooster. Having Timken Gymnasium as the venue makes the event special and their support of our efforts is huge. Most teams give up a home game and a payday to play in the event and that is something we really appreciate. Thanks to the Smith family for allowing us to continue to place the name Steve Smith in our event. We always smile when we think of Smitty and we feel this is one nice way to honor his memory. Merry Christmas to all.

Mike,
Great job (as usual) with the Classic. Would love to see some teams from the Akron/Canton area next year to draw fans. I'd think an NBC team or a Fed team from over that way would bring a nice group of fans.

As far as area teams, maybe you've reached out to Hiland in the past, but I'd love to see them in it.

I'd love to dedicate a page on my blog to all-time results and records associated with the classic (a standalone website would be ideal, in my opinion). I'm sure you have all that data somewhere. If you're ever interested in doing that, let me know. I'd be glad to help.
