Out with a bang
A tremendous weekend for a number of local athletes that wrapped up their school years on the playing fields. Hats off to Hillsdale. The Falcon Softball team captured its 6th state championship with a win over West Liberty-Salem 2-1. It's as good a school/sport combination that we have ever had in the area.
Brandy Kelley ended her school year on top of the podium as the Chippewa senior took first in the Div. 2 State High Jump competition. Kelley did it in style with her final jump being a personal best.
Four Rittman girls captured the school's first Track and Field title winning the 4X100 Meter Relay in Columbus. Three years ago, the school didn't even have a track program. That didn't phase Grethen Baisden, Crystal Barber, Alex Deffenbaugh and Stephanie Sanchez. They blazed their way to a Wayne County record time of 48.89 seconds to claim gold.
Many other great performances were given over the spring sports season. Hard to believe that another school year is over...in a blink.
Don't relax too much because the 2010-2011 school year is only ten weeks away.
