Free tics to Boys State

We are running a fun little promotion leading up the the Boys State Basketball Tournament. Tell us in 50 words or less why you should get two free tickets to this years tournament at Ohio State University March 25, 26 and 27. A complete list of rules and regulations is available on our webpage for this. Check it out. Tickets are getting expensive and the seats won't be low on center court, but they're free if you win. We're hoping for some interesting submissions. We'll announce the winner Friday March 19th.

The State Tournament is a fun weekend, a ton of basketball and a great tradition for me. My first state tournament was 1982. Back then seats we're tougher to come by at St. John Arena. Not the case these days at the Schott, we're if you don't mind the "nose-bleeds", you can get in. That is great because more kids can go, and fans in general. Back at St. John, there weren't nearly as many kids because there simply wasn't the seats avaialble (over 6,000 less seats). That being said, there is nothing better than St. John Arena. For folks that never went to a state game there, or saw the Buckeyes in the old barn, you unfortunately missed out because todays newer huge multipurpose arenas don't come close.

St. Johns Arena

How about the year that Hiland beat Lima CC in the semis!!! LIma CC fans thought they had won the game and were lining up in French Fieldhouse to get tickets for the championship game as Hiland stormed back to win the game. I believe Junior Raber was fouled as he attempted a half court shot and then proceded to make all three free throws to break their hearts. Lima fans were in shock when Hiland fans came to get the tickets.

I was there and the police

I was there and the police were standing there telling the Lima fans that Hiland won the game. They all left early to get seats for the finals and couldn't believe their team lost!

Wow

1982 That was a very long time ago.

St John

St John was a palace. So steep though. Getting to your seats was a feat in itself. Was so fortunate growing up in the greatest decade for Orrville sports, the 90's....I got to see all of this up close. Nothing like the dash next door to get tickets for the finals. It's lost a lot of it's luster, but remains a special weekend.

Good post Mike....you've got the best job in the world for at least 2 weekends out of the year (probably more).
